In this episode 5 in season 10 they interview Zach Kaplan from Chicago and Ward Hessig from Rochelle Illinois.
What careers being introduced?
Zach Kaplan is the founder and CEO of Inventables. when he was kid he always like building thing and was inspired by amusment park for he knew someone had to build them. He had spent two years building a model roller coaster out of steel. He also went to school for engineering and created his own company for he didn't like the idea of someone limiting his ideas with task but instead seeing how far he can go.
Ward Hessig is skydive Instructor at the Chicago land Skydiving Center. He went to the army for 5 years and later became a police officer and at the same time got a degree in law enforcement. Until one day he went skydiving with a friend and decided he may layoff law enforcement for a while that became about 16 years and has jumped about 11000 times. One must weight the fear they will face and the accomplishment in the end to truly move forward a step and not a step back.
What advice did they have to give?
Zach Kaplan:“Today, if you want to build something, the barriers to try are very low. Anything you want to learn is a Google search away, or a YouTube search away. You can do anything you want. You just have to go do it.”
Ward Hessig: “Courage is not being fearless—it’s acting in the face of fear. And that’s what I think true courage is; you act in the face of it, do it anyway, because the reward is so great. And if you let fear just keep you squashed, you’re not living. You’re dead already.”
Do any of these careers interest you?
I'm sooooo scared of heights that if I were to ever jump from they sky I'll probably faint before even touching the ground. Even while I'm at the mall just by standing next to the balcony I grip the railing in fearing I will fall.
Summary
I don't know much about engineering but I do like to create stuff that allows to use my imagination and creating on my task. I like to get my hands on things and create models and projects. And I feel I can do this if I follow my my major and see where it can take me. You just never know i can become a teacher, mural artist, fashion designer web designer or writer. That is why I need to learn to take more risk and leave my comfort zone more often just as Ward in skydiving and Zach following what he believes in.
